Steven Keyman is the Million Contribution Man

November 6th, 2009 by Matthew

ruby contributorYou may remember back in May that HisPowr4U passed the million contribution milestone.  She now has some company in the 1,000,000 contrib club… Steven Keyman!  Steven has been an active contributor since June, 2006 (when WikiAnswers was known as FAQ Farm!).

Along the way he’s helped countless memorabilia collectors with their questions about sports collectibles and sports cards.  He also walked away with three WAmmy Awards earlier this year.  Even more, he finished in 2nd place in our first AnswerThon, 1st place in the April edition and 3rd place in our most recent (October) installment of the question-answering contest!  Be sure to take a moment and congratulate the Key Man today!

Become a Green Thumb (without the thorns).

Green Thumbs on Answers.com

Green Thumbs are not just for gardeners anymore!

Actually, the Green Thumb is a new members badge on Answers.com’s Q&A community. The goal for the verbal gardeners is in developing the category tree by writing descriptions for categories. Like growing flowers to accentuate a property, the descriptions provide helpful explanations and further details to what the Q&As in that category will be about.

How do you do it? Email new category descriptions to categories @ wikianswers.com (no spaces). In the subject line please specify your username and the number of category descriptions included in your e-mail.

Currently Aggie80 and XwizardgodX are Green Thumbs - but there are more waiting in the wings to earn the honor.

Props to Wayoffline81 who inspired the making of this designation.

Paint the town orange!

October 27th, 2009 by Liz

The Orange Guy.

You’ve seen him grace the pages of Answers.com in his various costumes, roles and forms. You’ve seen his friends parade around the Community: Decoded page, displaying the kinds of programs and positions you can join on the site.

And today, the Orange Guy (the brainchild of renowned illustrator, Leo Blanchette) has officially joined the Answers.com family. Did you know he began his career here as an icon for a quick promo ad? That was his lucky break, since he has since evolved into one of the most memorable images on the Answers.com sites.

A little bit of background:

Name: Orange Guy
Location: Everywhere the community goes
Current profession: The Answers.com Community Mascot
Past professions: Pirate, Mailman, Secret Agent, Racecar driver, Chef, Scientist, Writer…
Hobbies: Helping community members around ReferenceAnswers and WikiAnswers.
Website: www.jesterartsillustrations.com

Read up on the rest of the Orange Guy’s biography and get to know him and his creator, Leo Blanchette, who said “he came up with the idea over two years ago while driving 30 miles to work. After running out of gas and walking 2 miles to the nearest gas station he got serious about the concept.”

Well, whatever works. As Leo says, “Paint the town orange!”

And they’re off…

Well, in a few more hours, that is.

The AnswerThon begins tonight at midnight, EDT, and continues for the next 48 hours through Sunday night.

Hope you’ve been practicing… Word has it that past winners are flexing their champion typing muscles for this one. Big prizes at stake.

In case you haven’t already, read the rules so you know in advance and don’t have to backtrack.

See you on the other side!
